Beinn Liath Mhor & Sgorr Ruadh is a route in “The Coulin” region / range which is located in the Coulin and Torridon area of the Scottish Highlands as defined by the Scottish Mountaineering Club.

This is a mainly circular route but there are parts where you need to retrace your footsteps

This route takes in Beinn Liath Mhor & Sgorr Ruadh and is one of finest walks in this region on Scotland.

From Achnnashellach the right of way which goes up Coire Lair to Torridon is taken for two kilometres where a cairn indicates a path bearing right leads onto Beinn Liath Mhor's rigde which gives excellent views of Torridon. Beinn Liath Mhòr's descent is not a straight forward walk as there are areas of crags and high rock steps at the foot of the pass between the two mountains. From the pass easy going onto Sgorr Ruadh and descent via pass between Sgorr Ruadh and Fuar Tholl.

The path crosses the River Lair which may need wading through.

Distance: 17km / 10 miles
Ascent: 1320m / 4331 feet
Time: 6 hours plus

There are 2 munros on the route and are listed below

Walkers should satisfy themselves that they have the necessary permission from Network Rail to use the railway crossing.

There is not normally a problem crossing River Lair unless in spate. It can be inspected on outwood route and if problematic descend from Loch a'Bhealaich passing Sgurr Ruadh's southeastern flank.
