Mountain Description for Meall na Aighean
Meall na Aighean lies on the eastern end of the Glen Lyon horseshoe, has three ridges and a twin topped summit rising above Inverar. Meall na Aighean, previously unnamed on the OS Landranger 1:50,000 sheet 51, was shown as a spot height only and is sometimes referred to as Creag Mhor which is incorrect as this top lies 2Km east south east of the real summit.
Both the southern and western sides of Meall na Aighean the terrain is generally moderate grassy slopes with scattered rocky outcrops and appear rather unimposing and the ridges from the summit are featureless. However, the complete round of the horseshoe which includes Carn Mairg, Meall Garbh & Carn Gorm is a good hillwalking expedition.
The summit is the north eastern one and 7 metres higher than the other. It is easily recognisable as a little rocky tor. Only the steep southern flank of Creag Mhor which rises steeply above the Pass of Lyon, and Chesthill give and impression of steepness and are best avoided.
Usual access to Meall na Aighean is quite strict as the land owners require you to complete the Glen Lyon Horseshoe route from west - east so not to disturb dear management.
