Mountain Description for Beinn Achaladair
Beinn Achaladair rises steeply above Achallader farm and is probably named after the settlement which lived there and translates from the Gaelic as “Field of hard water”.
The crest of the mountain is a fairly long level ridge connecting the summit to the southern top (1002 metres) and dropping from there to a col at the head of Coire nan Clach.
The mountain looks impressive from the north west throwing down steep wall like slopes and along with the three adjoining Munros of Beinn Dorain, Beinn an Dothaidh, and Beinn a Chreachain it forms the historical Great Wall of Rannoch.
Beinn Achaladair reaches a height of 1038 metres (3405 feet) and is classed as a Munro and a Marilyn (hill), geographically it is part of the southern highlands but it stands at their northern extremity and displays many of the characteristics of the rockier peaks to the north.
The finest feature of this munro is the north-eastern corrie which drops steeply between the north and east ridges at the head of Allt na Crannaich.
